Local Knoxville – Cove Park

Knoxville is surrounded by lakes and rivers and mountains. There are so many parks to visit and one of our favorites is Cove Park. Surrounded by water, there are ducks and wildlife, a playground, walking trails, a small beach area for swimming, picnic areas, a fishing pond, volleyball pits, kayak rentals, as well as other outdoor activities.

Since the weather was so beautiful, my oldest grandson and I had an impromptu outing this weekend. We stopped by Fresh Market to pick up a sandwich and some sushi, some fruit, and some Pirate’s Booty. Although the park was a bit busy with parties and families enjoying a Sunday, we easily found a picnic table and enjoyed our lunch, watching people fish in the quiet pond area off to the side.

Next up was the cove where we watched the ducks and geese with their babies, careful not to get too close. The fluffy little balls of fur stayed right up next to the mother’s onshore and floated right beside them in the water. If you look closely below, you can see the goslings in the grass, around the feet of their mothers.

We made our way around the cove, my grandson playing on the playground, walking down by the edge of the water, and making our way over to the beach area. He declared that he needed to walk in the sand and water, rolled up his pants legs and played in the water for quite some time while I watched from a nearby bench before making the rest of the way around the circle back to our car.

It was a relaxing, quiet afternoon. We have other favorite parks in the area too. All have something unique about them that makes them special to us. If you are in Knoxville, do you have a favorite park?
