Your moving day is set and it’s time to start preparing. As you’re making your lists and checking them twice, don’t forget to factor in your furry friends. Here are some tips for making sure the process goes smoothly.

- Begin preparing your pet for the move as early as possible, by getting them used to being in a carrier, and taking them on short car rides. If you have to travel on an airplane, make sure you bring along comfort items for the trip.
- Make sure your pet is up-to-date with all their vaccinations before traveling. Pack the vaccination record with your pet’s supplies and toys so you can find it if needed.
- Visit your vet for a pre-travel checkup to ensure your pet is healthy enough for the journey. Also, ask for recommendations for vets in your new location if you are moving to a new city or state. Once you find a new vet, you will need to have your pet’s medical records transfered.
- Pack familiar items, such as your pet’s favorite toys, treats, and blankets, to help them feel comfortable in the new environment.
- Research pet-friendly accommodations along your route of travel and plan regular stops to give your pet a chance to stretch their legs and take a potty break.
