The holidays are a time for family, friends, and food. But they can also be a time for family quirks. Here are a few of the most common quirks that families experience when they get together:
- The great debate over what to watch on TV. There’s always one person who wants to watch football, while another person wants to watch a Christmas movie. And then there’s the person who wants to watch the news. If you are lucky enough to have multiple TVs in multiple rooms, spread the family out. Or plan the meal around it so you can turn off the TV and enjoy each other’s company.
- The food dilemma. There’s never enough of the dishes that everyone loves, and there’s always too much of the dishes that no one likes. And then there’s the picky person who won’t eat any of it. Cook and serve the favorites and not-so-favorites. Or better yet, just make it a potluck and have everyone bring their own favorites. You might discover a new dish that you love.
- The awkward family photos. Everyone wants to get a good family photo, but it’s never easy. Someone is always blinking, someone is always making a funny face, and someone is always blocking the view. Take the pictures anyway. It’s all about the memories and the “realness” of your crazy family.
- The dreaded political conversations. It’s hard to avoid politics at family gatherings, but it’s usually best to try. Otherwise, you might end up having a heated argument with your uncle about the latest election and no one in the family wants to listen to you argue. Shut it down, LOL.
Despite all of the quirks, the holidays are a special time to spend with your loved ones. So try to relax, enjoy the company, and don’t take things too seriously.
